Ken Ehrlich / Brandon LaBelle (e+l) – Media Plate
Performance
Please pass the butter, thank you.
Media Plate is a performance event using the form of a shared meal to engage questions of generosity and intimacy. The material objects on the dining table choreograph the act of dining to become entangled in the embodied movements of eating and incorporated into the collective sharing of a meal. Dining, in this sense, is full of communicative messages, both literal actions and secondary gestures and nuance. Can recipes, cookbooks, pots and pans, dining tables, plates and glasses all become intimate props for staging a narrative?
O, I forgot to pick up milk today…
Drawing upon these ideas, we invite you to join us for a meal. In exchange we ask that to facilitate the project you donate a dining plate from home. This will be incorporated into our ongoing work. Thank you!
e+l stages investigative performances based on urban infrastructures, forms of exchange and spatial scenarios with recent interest in food and waste management systems. This has resulted in past projects in the cities of Hull, Berlin, Curitiba, and Copenhagen. The projects question what our ability is as individuals to gain access to larger systems of urban management and design, while marking the informal cultures and collective behaviors that bring forward counter-perspectives. Their project on cultures of trucking is being installed at FIT, Berlin, this summer.
