Anläßlich der 7. Ausgabe des club transmediale (CTM) präsentiert General Public in Zusammenarbeit mit DISK – Initiative Bild & Ton eine Ausstellung mit Fotografien von Martin Eberle, Marco Microbi und Remco Schuurbiers sowie einem Archiv von Audio- und Videoaufnahmen der vergangenen 6 Ausgaben des CTM. Das Bewegtobjekt Dokumat 500 von Niklas Roy wird die Ausstellung und einen Teil der Festival-Abende stichprobenartig begleiten.
Der Platz auf der Gästeliste gilt als vermeintlich garantierter Zugang zu einem besonderen Erlebnis. Er zeichnet seinen Inhaber als verbunden mit dem Ort und/oder der Veranstaltung aus und wird so zu Sehnsuchtsobjekt und Distinktionsmerkmal in einer Clubszene ohne durchgreifende Ausschlußmechanismen. Für die ausstellenden Künstler ist er aber auch notwendige Bedingung ihrer Arbeit, insbesondere dann, wenn der Listenplatz verbunden ist mit dem Zugang zum Clubheiligtum: dem Backstage. In ihren fotografischen Arbeiten zeigen Eberle, Microbi und Schuurbiers die andere Seite des Berliner Clublebens. Eberle fotografiert Künstler kurz nach ihrem Auftritt: beseelt, verärgert, entspannt – oder er porträtiert den Ort des Geschehens, den leeren Clubraum ohne Gäste. Marco Microbi legt sein Augenmerk auf die performenden Künstler/innen und ihre Technik. Remco Schuurbiers spürt in seinen Stilleben den kleinen Ausfällen, den Seitengelassen, Überresten und Absurditäten des Clublebens nach: halbvergessenes Catering, mit Leergut umstellte Schläfer, Lagerräume mit dem hastig entfernten Mobiliar vergangener Veranstaltungen sind seine Motive. Alle drei Fotografen sind sozialisiert durch die Spezifika der Berliner Clublandschaft, deren Dokumentatoren sie sind. Niklas Roy hingegen entpersonalisiert den Blick auf den Club. Sein Kamera-Roboter Dokumat 500, bewegt sich mittels Sensoren selbstständig durch den Raum und erstellt automatisiert Zufallsaufnahmen.

For the 7th edition of the club transmediale festival (CTM), General Public in cooperation with DISK – Sound & Image Initiative, presents the exhibition "Gästeliste +1": photographs of Berlin’s music scene by Martin Eberle, Marco Microbi and Remco Schuurbiers. The exhibition will be complemented by an archive-station where you can access audio-video documents of the last 6 editions of the CTM festival. The mobile camera installation, Dokumat 500 from Niklas Roy will randomly sample the exhibition space and some of the festival nights.
Being on the guest-list – blagging it – supposedly guarantees access to a special, exclusive experience in club-land. It’s therefore a highly desirable symbol of distinction that endows the chosen few with insider kudos, even in a club scene whose door policies are not radically exclusionary. For the artists in this exhibition being on the guest-list is also a prerequisite for their artwork, particularly if it assures them entry into that holy-of-holies, the backstage. Eberle, Microbi and Schuurbiers’s work shows the hidden aspects of the Berlin club scene. Eberle photographs artists – animated, irritated or relaxed – just after their performance, or the venue itself, deserted once the guests have left. Marco Microbi focuses on the performers in action and their technical accoutrements. Remco Schuurbiers creates still-lifes of shortfalls, or the abandoned remnants and absurdities of club-life: left-over catering, someone asleep amongst a pile of empties, storage spaces crammed with everything that’s hastily stashed out of sight minutes before the doors open on a new event. Characteristic takes on the Berlin club landscape, for all three artists have been molded by the very scene they document. Niklas Roy, in contrast, offers a de-personalized look at club-life. The eye of his robotic camera installation, Dokumat 500, is a sensory device that tracks movement in its vicinity and produces chance shots automatically.

Martin Eberle
Martin Eberle found fame as a photographer with his book Temporary Spaces (2001/2002) which documented the vivid nineties club scene in Berlin. His new works continue to explore the ever-changing club culture and its protagonists. Eberle was also one of the co-managers of the legendary gallery space and club galerie berlintokyo.

Marco Microbi
Marco Microbi was born in 1971 in Merseburg upon Saale. After completing his design degree in 1998, he moved to Berlin. Since then he has followed Berlin club life, including club transmediale, with his camera, photographing the performers on stage, their gear and the audience. An infinitely large archive can be found on his web page.

Niklas Roy
Niklas Roy is a media artist based in Berlin with a stunning talent in the construction of electro-mechanic devices and machines.

Remco Schuurbiers
Berlin based artist Schuurbiers is a prolific photographer, one quarter of the club transmediale core team, and co-organizer of the event series "The Art of Pingpongcountry.” Besides Schuurbiers makes abstract compositions, installations and performances that explore the border between audio and video. In projects he works with electronic musicians to produce composed or improvised audio-visual performances. He has recently worked with the Dutch composer Huib Emmer, and often collaborates with the Dutch sound artist Radboud Mens, and with director Ivan Stanev on films and theater plays.
